Teachers' Research Resource Unit (TRRU)
Introduction
The Teachers' Research Resource Unit (TRRU) was established in1996
"to improve the quality of teaching and learning in Ahfad University".
It was established with some generous help from the government of
the Netherlands.
Aim, Objectives and Activities
The mission of the Teachers’
Research Resources Unit (TRRU) is to improve the quality of instruction
and learning at Ahfad. The Unit seeks to create excellence in
teaching and research by developing the skills of the faculty
of the University. Together with other bodies of the University
and others at national and regional levels, the Unit initiates,
organizes and carries out activities designed to achieve its goals
and objectives. Currently, the Unit is working on a curriculum
improvement program that will help the University adopt a fully-fledged
Course Unit System.
Staff Development Activities
These aim at developing the competencies of university staff in
different relevant areas, which will help them improve their performance
in carrying out their various functions and playing their different
roles within the university and in the community. Thus the Unit
holds training courses and other activities that improve:
- The quality of teaching and learning
- Research and research supervision
- Student guidance and counselling
- Community service- including extension, consultancy
etc.
- Administrative skills
- Any other related functions and roles or sub-themes
of the above
Research Coordination
TRRU is concerned with the coordination of research within the
university and with other universities or institution especially
in areas related to its activities.
Resource Centre: To help university staff as far
as educational media and other materials are concerned.
Any other relevant activity or task that may be
assigned to the Unit by the president of AUW or its Academic Board.
An example of this is Quality Assurance . This is a new activity
started with the help of the Government of the Netherlands
Steering Committee
A steering committee sets the general policies and plans for the
unit. It comprises:
- Vice president of AUW for Academic Affairs
(Chairperson)
- The Librarian.
- Deans of Schools (or their representatives)
- Head of Documentation Unit for Women's Studies
- Head of Women's Studies Unit
- Representative, Academic Council
- Head of the Unit (convener).
Course Committees: Every course or activity run
by the Unit has a coordinator and a committee that acts as a task
force responsible for the academic and administrative preparation,
execution, monitoring and evaluation of the course or activity.
Current Facilities: The unit occupies two offices
and activity room in the new management building. The building (second
flour) which are reasonably equipped.
